Good shrub for naturalizing, especially in moist, semi-shady sites. Early spring flowers of green-yellow are a harbinger of spring. Small, oval shaped, scarlet fruits on female plants. Need both male and female plants for fruiting. Plants are unsexed. 2006 Plants of Merit®. 2012 Native Herb of the Year for the Herb Society of America.
