A cultivar developed in the Netherlands, Wine & Roses® has incredibly dark burgundy-purple foliage which really sets off the rosy-pink flowers. An improvement over 'Java Red'. 2000 Gold Medal Plant Award winner. Zone 5-8 (Trial in zone 4). (CPBR 2642, C®)
Flowers have fragrant, yellow, ribbon-like petals, 1.5" in diameter and bloom in late fall about the time leaves drop. Does well in woods, shade and naturalized situations. In full sun and good soil will develop into a well rounded vase-shaped plant. Use in the shrub border or as screen plant.
Perhaps the largest fruit and most productive of any cultivar. Plants are larger and fruit matures later than 'Adams'. Fruit set is normally improved when more than one cultivar is used, such as 'Adams'.
