Discovered as a 'Schwedleri' seedling in Canada in 1967, this COPF introduction is similar to Schwedler but has a superior branching habit. A vigorous grower with a strong, straight central leader, it has brilliant red spring foliage that turns to dark green through summer.
Diabolo® has always been popular because of its beautiful reddish-purple foliage but this tree form adds a whole new dimension. The white, exfoliating bark is unforgettable. Plant as an accent. Some pruning will be necessary. Own root.
This highly rated disease resistant crab has a nice rounded shape as wide as it is tall. The summer foliage is a glossy, dark green. Abundant, showy, persistent red fruits contrast well against late fall and winter landscapes. 2001 Cary Award Winner.
This floriferous, early flowering cherry from Japan has finely textured leaves, graceful pendulous branches, and double pink flowers. Note: Weeping Higan cherry's tops are bagged and tied before shipment to prevent breakage during shipment.
Lustrous, dark green, leaf spot resistant foliage and creamy-white, exfoliating bark that ages to cinnamon brown. Makes a beautiful specimen, particularly stunning in the multi-stemmed form where the bark can take center stage. As the name implies, holds up well in heat. Requires full sun and moist, somewhat acidic soil. Reported to have good resistance to bronze birch borer. Introduced by Tree Introductions, Inc.
Grafted onto a standard, this will add height and architectural interest to any border. Very compact and refined, easily shaped by pruning, the design potential of this willow is endless. Delicate, slender branches sway beautifully in a breeze.
A great xeriscape plant, this outstanding Amur Maple was selected by Bailey Nurseries for its bright red fruit and exceptional scarlet fall color. Like our other ginnalas, 'Embers' is dug in spring, resulting in a later shipping date for these bareroot trees than our fall dug stock.
Introduced by Bailey Nurseries in 1979, this shade tree was selected by Don Pond for its outstanding branching habit, hardiness, and vigor. The immature foliage displays an attractive red tinge before maturing to glossy deep green leaves with a slightly wavy margin.
Among the most popular Norway cultivars, this tree performs well under challenging urban conditions. A rapid grower, it has ascending branches that result in its nice oval shape, a straight trunk, good branching tendencies, and attractive glossy foliage.
An old favorite now available in a tree form. Makes a great vertical accent with three-season appeal. Creamy white flat-topped flowers in spring are followed by clusters of red berries maturing to black in fall. Disease resistant, glossy green foliage changes to purple-bronze in fall. Developed by the University of Minnesota.
This fine landscape tree is an excellent choice for use as a screen, hedge or an individual specimen. Best in full sun, it also tolerates light shade. The slender olive-brown stems have prominent lenticels. The mature bark is quite handsome, smooth, sinewy and steel gray.
This stately tree was selected for its strong central leader, dense upright pyramidal shape and attractive foliage. Tolerant of difficult urban conditions such as adverse soils, poor drainage, air pollution, and drought. Like all planetrees, it develops an attractive exfoliating bark, which peels back to expose interior bark in shades of cream to white. Bred to be highly resistant to anthracnose. Introduced by Chicagoland Grows®.
One look is all you'll need to see that Fall Fiesta® is superior to the sort. The branching is full and symmetrical. Leathery, glossy, deep green leaves are resistant to leaf tatter and leafhopper damage. A rapid grower, easy to transplant and also resistant to sun scald and frost cracks. Outstanding fall color, shows far more oranges and reds than other sugar maples. Prefers a moist yet well-drained soil with a slight acidity for optimum growth.
Firefall™ has an upright-oval form with good branch angles. This selection is male and therefore does not produce nuisance seeds. The foliage is an attractive medium green throughout the summer. Fall color is bright orange to scarlet and develops fairly early. This is a distinct advantage over some existing Freeman maple cultivars that color later and often do not develop much color in northern regions before freezing temperatures cause the foliage to drop. University of Minnesota introduction.
Pink buds open to incredibly full and wonderfully fragrant pale pink flowers in spring. Centennial Blush is a prolific bloomer with flower buds formed at almost every node yielding a fantastic floral display of delicate pink covering the entire plant. Attractive medium green foliage on an interesting branching structure follows in the summer turning yellow to bronze in autumn. Can be grown as a large shrub or a small tree, perfectly suited for small urban gardens.
Gladiator™ is an excellent ornamental tree with a profusion of bright pink flowers followed by small reddish-purple fruit on a stately, upright crown. Glossy bronze-purple leaves look lush all growing season long. Ideal ornamental tree for space-challenged sites including under power lines, as a small, boulevard tree or planted in a row for a screen. High disease resistance. Open pollinated seedling selection of Royalty.
Discovered in western Ohio, this sport of hedge maple has leaves that are more deeply lobed than the species, similar to an Acer griseum. It was selected for its cold tolerance, after an exceptionally cold winter, and was not affected by frost cracking, which can adversely affect the species. An adaptable tree which will tolerate dry soils and severe pruning.
A distinct improvement over the species with straighter branching and more evenly sized. Foliage is more substantial and darker green. Excellent red fall color. Northern pin oaks prefer to grow in full sun with deep, well-drained soil. Discovered at Bailey Nurseries.
